Oh so wrong, in so many ways, but thunderously funny: Controversy notwithstanding, "Tropic Thunder" will make you laugh. You may cringe from time to time, but it will still make you laugh.A new action film is being shot in the jungle with Hollywood "sensibilities" and a budget to match. But when egos clash, the director loses control and decides to send his actors (Ben Stiller, Robert Downey Jr., Jack Black, Brandon T. Jackson) into the jungle to film things guerrilla-style. What they don't know is that they dropped near a drug operation that makes the situation even more real.
"Tropic Thunder" will offend you, really it will. But is that a bad thing? At its core, this is a film that makes fun of the very genre of which it is a part; but that is, of course, funny.
The real hidden gems in this film are the bit parts for DDE_LINK2Matthew McConaughey DDE_LINK2 and Tom Cruise. I honestly have never laughed so hard at Tom Cruise in a movie. He should do more of this type of thing.
Great performances and a witty script keep things punched up and on edge. While it may step over that edge from time to time, "Tropic Thunder" does make you laugh and ends the summer with a real bang.
