Loudoun's residential taxes highest in Virginia
New figures released Dec. 15 by the U.S. Census Bureau, as reported by the Tax Foundation, show Loudoun topping the list of Virginia counties paying the most residential property taxes.Neighboring Fairfax County ranked second.
The bureau's list ranked counties by the amount of tax money generated per house, not by residential property tax rates.
Nationally, Loudoun ranks 33 out of 1,817 U.S. counties, with Fairfax County close behind, ranking 34. The survey did not include Puerto Rico but did include cities not belonging to counties.
According to the survey, taken during a three-year period (2005, 2006 and 2007), the median home value in Loudoun was $541,700, with the median homeowner paying $4,434 in taxes annually.
Ranking highest on the bureau's list is Westchester County, N.Y., where the median home is valued at $571,700, and the annual tax median is $7,908.
The locality with the lowest residential property tax on the bureau's list is Vernon Parish, La., where the median home value was $76,700 with taxes at $115 annually.
These numbers may seem dated to many Loudoun residents, whose home values have dropped because of high numbers of foreclosures and the nationwide housing crisis.
“It really might reflect our prosperity” during these years, said Supervisor Stevens Miller (D-Dulles). “That era does not reflect the economic situation we're in now.”
Since 2007, Loudoun's Board of Supervisors has voted to raise the residential property tax from 96 cents to the current $1.14. During the vote for the increase April 1, board members said they hoped the new tax rate would make up for revenues lost because of falling home values.
Supervisor Eugene Delgaudio (R-Sterling), who said he wasn't surprised at Loudoun's ranking, said the Census Bureau's data shows the county spends too much and is too heavily reliant on the residential tax base to generate revenue.
“We cannot continue to raise taxes,” he said, adding that the county needs to cut spending rather than raising revenues.

Wow!!! And what services do we get for this recognition? Basically zip.
All the moeny goes to schools leaving police, fire, and general government in a state of disaray.
Wait till the BoS proposes another tax increase to offset lost revenue. There is nothing left in the cupboard.

70 PERCENT OF LOUDOUNS BUDGET GOES TO SCHOOLS! 26% goes to fire and police. 4% for rest. Yet when campaign time comes around and all the "waste" and 'fat" is pledged to be eliminated, Hatrick still keeps his inflated budget. Were any Loudoun High schools in the top 10 recently reported? No?! hmmm...

And what percentage of that 70 percent that goes to Loudoun's schools is to support services like English as a Second Language, parent interpreters, etc.? Is anyone else steamed at seeing school signs in spanish? Where are the signs in Korean or Farsi? Just why is Loudoun (aka Stevie Miller) bending over for the illegals?
