Junior National Young Leadership Conference, golf tournament and picnic, pastor anniversary celebration, condolences

By Terri Randolph

Junior National Young Leadership Conference: Tyler Clark, granddaughter of Calvin and Carolyn Clark, traveled from Charlotte, N.C., to Washington, D.C., to participate in the Junior National Young Leadership Conference that was held June 22-27. Tyler was nominated to attend as a result of her academic achievements and leadership potential. The purpose of the conference was for high-achieving middle school students from around the country to enhance essential leadership skills and learn how to immediately apply them to their communities at home.

During her visit, she stayed at the interactive Maryland Science Center, traveled to Harpers Ferry, and attended prominent Washington sites such the White House, Capitol Hill, Lincoln Memorial, the Newseum, the Vietnam Memorial and the Korean War Memorial.

Golf tournament, picnic: The Loudoun-Douglass Alumni Association will be sponsoring a golf tournament on Friday, July 11, at Goose Creek Golf Club in Leesburg. Please contact Herbert Randolph at 703-777-8270 for more information and to register. The Loudoun-Douglass Alumni Association will also hold a picnic on Saturday, July 12, at the Douglass Community Center in Leesburg from 1 p.m. to dusk. The 2008 scholarships will be awarded during the picnic at 3 p.m.

Pastor anniversary celebration: Second Mount Olive Baptist Church of Hamilton invites the public to the first year anniversary of the Rev. George M. Mink on Sunday, July 20, at 3 p.m. Dinner will be served immediately following the morning service at 11 a.m. The afternoon speaker will be the Rev. Kenny Smith, pastor of First Baptist Church of Vienna. For additional information, please contact the Rev. Mink at 703-620-1044.

Condolences: Please send your condolences to the Smith family as they are grieving the death of Gerald Everett Smith, 65, of St. Louis. He died June 20 at his home. His funeral services were held June 26 at Royston Funeral Home in Middleburg, followed by a burial at Solon Cemetery in Middleburg. Please continue to pray for the family.
