Charles Jackson Friedlander, a former Broad Run High School guidance counselor, was arrested in Florida in connection with an Internet child sex sting.

Former counselor arrested in Internet sex sting

A former Broad Run High School guidance counselor was charged in Pinellas County, Fla., July 21, after he traveled to see someone he had met online who had agreed to give him access to two boys younger than 12.

Instead, he was greeted by police.

Charles Jackson Friedlander, 78, of Ft. Myers, Fla., was charged with one count of prohibited use of a computer for the seduction of a child and one count of traveling to meet a minor, according to a press release from the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office.

Friedlander's arrest came as the result of an undercover computer sting to fight crimes against children, the release said.

Friedlander thought he was 'talking' [online] to an adult who had access to two boys under 12 years old who were going to be made available to Friedlander for alleged sexual abuse,” the release said.

An undercover detective with the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office Crimes Against Children unit became aware of Friedlander through an Internet chat, which set off a monthlong investigation culminating in Friedlander's arrest, the release said.

Friedlander is a licensed mental health therapist in Ft. Myers, the release said.

According to Loudoun County Public Schools spokesman Wayde Byard, Friedlander worked as a guidance counselor at Broad Run High School in Ashburn from 1970 to 1986.

Friedlander was released July 22 on $20,000 bond.

He was my guidance counselor. He was really deplorable. Not a good counselor at all. We kids knew he was scummy, but the adults in charge refused to acknowledge the obvious. I hope all the Faculty at Broad Run now realizes how poor their judgement was and what they subjected innoccent children to.
