Paws for your heart

Healthy for pets is healthy for humans, and walking with a dog is fun – and healthy.

The Loudoun County Animal Shelter and Douglass Community Center Advisory Board for Children's Programs, with some administrative support from Dr. Michael Strickland at Leesburg Veterinary Hospital, invite everyone and their four-legged friends to Ida Lee Park in Leesburg June 21 for a walk in the park.

"Bring your dog for a day of family fun and exercise for two good causes. Enjoy a 5K walk and learn about health for humans and pets alike" is the rule of the event.

The 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. fun day includes a 5K fun walk (runners get to take off 15 minutes before the rest) through the park, and activities for the whole family – pet and family fitness vendors will be set up and pet adoptions will be offered. Add in children's activities, moon bounce, face painting, music and great food –and the donation of proceeds to the Animal Shelter and to the Douglass programs -- and it's a win-win day.

Preregistration of $20 per walking pair ($25 at the event) includes a T-shirt and bandanna. Go to www.leesburgvet.com or call 703-777-3313 for more information.
