Election, primary, Taste of Greece, farm market, farm tour, open houses, Heritage Day, rummage sale, Fourth of July

Town election: Congratulations to the newly elected town officials: Mayor Roger Vance and Town Council members Steve Morgart, John Dean, Amy Marasco, Matt Parse and Joe Gertig. We commend your willingness to serve the residents of Hillsboro, and we wish you all the very best in the upcoming term. In all, 39 registered voters cast their votes for a 61 percent turnout.
Dual primary: A dual primary for the 10th-district seat of the House of Representatives will take place Tuesday, June 10, at Hillsboro Elementary School, 6 a.m.-7 p.m.
Taste of Greece: Doukenie Winery (located north of Hillsboro on Route 690) invites you to its annual "Taste of Greece," its biggest festival of the year, this Saturday, May 17, noon-6 p.m. (rain or shine). Guests can expect a fun-filled, educational day with live music, winery tours, wine tastings, and homemade Greek appetizers prepared by Hope, the Bazaco family matriarch.
Advance tickets are $15 (call 540-668-6464, ext. 207) or $20 at the door. Admission includes appetizers and a complimentary wine glass. Also available for sale will be Greek gyros.
Purcellville Farm Market: The Purcellville Farm Market located downtown across from the train station is open for business Thursday evenings from 4 to 7 p.m. Products in season for the month of May include arugula, asparagus, basil, beef, beets, breads, broccoli raab, cheese, jams and jellies, kale, lamb, lettuce, mushrooms, onions, parsley, pastries, pies, plants, pork, radishes, rhubarb, sage, salsa, soaps, sorrel, soups, spinach, strawberries, summer squash, Swiss chard, turkey, turnips, wine, wool products and yogurt.
Spring Farm Tour: Celebrate your mom yet again by treating her to The Loudoun County Department of Economic Development’s spring farm tour Saturday-Sunday, May 17-18, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. both days. This is a free, self-guided driving tour down Loudoun’s country roads to 31 county farms, nurseries and wineries. Detailed tour information and a map can be found at www.LoudounFarms.org This is a family-oriented, fun-filled, educational affair.
Open house: The Douglass Community Center invites you to its childcare open house Saturday, May 19, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. This is a wonderful opportunity to meet staff, tour the facilities and inquire about openings. The program offers full-time and part-time childcare for children ages 3-5 and offers a safe, healthy learning environment. Healthy breakfasts and snacks are provided. Program hours are 7 a.m.-6:15 p.m. Monday-Friday.

RHVFD open house: The Round Hill Volunteer Fire Department has scheduled its annual open house Saturday, May 24, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. All are welcome.
Call for volunteers: The Purcellville Preservation Association needs help with Heritage Day scheduled for Saturday, May 17. Interested persons can go to the train station that day for assignment. Volunteer opportunities include parade lineup assistance, photography, stage hands, setup/cleanup and parking. For more information, e-mail the PPA at ppa-org@hotmail.com.
Donations needed: The Ladies' Board of Inova Loudoun Hospital is seeking donations for its 70th annual rummage sale scheduled for Oct. 17-18 at the Morven Park Equestrian Center just north of Leesburg off U.S. 15. All proceeds benefit the hospital. To donate, call 703-771-2985 and leave a message. A member will return your call and set up a convenient time and place to meet. Help the Ladies' Board celebrate 70 years of giving to the community by donating your usable items to its rummage sale.
HCA fundraising: The HCA Fourth of July celebration will take place Saturday, July 5, at 5 p.m. The HCA relies on generous contributions for this family-oriented, fun festivity. The fund has about $1,600 and, therefore, the HCA needs to raise an additional $4,000. The HCA’s annual membership drive is also under way. To join or renew your membership and/or to make a donation to HCA or its fireworks fund, please use the form on the Web site, www.hillsborova.org, and mail it in (HCA, 37016 Charles Town Pike, Purcellville, VA 20132). The HCA Web site is a great place to keep informed of upcoming events.
