Scholarships, Women’s Day celebration, fish fry, Loudoun NAACP Golf Tournament

Scholarships: Congratulations to Jasmine Hughes, senior at Loudoun County High School. She will be attending Christopher Newport University in the fall and just received two scholarships – the Delta Sigma Theta Scholarship and the Presidential Leadership Program Scholarship. More are sure to come. Congratulations, Jasmine.

Women’s Day Celebration: Mount Zion United Methodist Church will have its Women’s Day celebration May 17-18 at the church at 12 North St. N.E. in Leesburg. This year’s theme is Women Honoring God. The celebration includes a Women’s Community Choir Concert under the direction of LaPearl Campbell-Smith, guest minister of music, on Saturday, May 17, at 3:30 p.m. Guest speaker on Sunday, May 18, at the 11 a.m. worship service will be Mount Zion’s former first lady, Mrs. Maria Jeter.

Fish fry: The Men of Mount Zion United Methodist Church of Hamilton will have a fish fry on Saturday, May 17, at the church at 250 W. Virginia Ave. in Hamilton. The event will start at 11 a.m. Make sure to come out for good food and good fellowship.

Golf tournament: The Loudoun NAACP will be holding a golf fundraiser Wednesday, June 18, at Stoneleigh Golf Club in Round Hill. Registration begins at 8 a.m. and shotgun start is at 9 a.m. Format is Captains Choice. It is $85 per person, which includes lunch. Prizes will be given for longest drive and closest to the pin (men and women) and a car will be awarded to the hole-in-one winner. To register contact: Michael Weatherton at 703-729-7360. Teams are welcome and deadline for registration is May 28.
