CountrySide/Cascades
Car free, march on, study on, stitch it, the American Legion, Reel Critics and the Green Expo
By Kathie Felix
Car free: When my car was in the shop last week, I remembered the “7 to 7 on 7” bus service and thought it would be a good idea to take the bus to an afternoon appointment. While checking bus routes and schedules, I found that the “7 to 7 on 7” bus does not stop anywhere on route 7, the closest location to my planned departures and arrivals. At some point in time, I guess, the Virginia Regional Transportation Association thought a catchy name was more important than an accurate route description. After looking at the route, I’m thinking the bus service should be renamed to something like Eastern Loudoun Transit. Drive On: I considered walking the three or four miles on Route 7, but discarded the idea since there is no sidewalk between Cascades/CountrySide and the area west of Loudoun One. Like any car-dependent Loudouner, I ended up rescheduling the appointment for a day when my car would be available. Sometimes it’s not easy being green.
March on: The Potomac Falls High School Marching Band took first place in Group 2 in the United States Scholastic Band Association marching band competition on Sept. 13 in Williamsport, Pa. The Panthers also earned honors for Best Visual, Best Music, Best General Effect and Best Percussion.
Study on: Potomac Falls High School sophomore Jonathan “Nic” Morris was a Rochester Scholar this summer, one of 400 students in grades 6-12 attending the University of Rochester’s pre-college academic program. Nic’s course of study included two classes: argument and debate, a survey of public speaking, critical thinking, organization and research, and Bang Your Head, a survey of heavy metal music and its history.
