Opening Drive: Week 7
The seventh week of the 2008 varsity football season includes six district games. Langley at Stone Bridge is the Times-Mirror's Game of the Week.
Here's a look at the other five games:
Potomac Falls (5-0) at Park View (2-3)
When: Oct. 10, 7:30 p.m.
Last season: Park View 21-14
Last week: Potomac Falls 47, Loudoun County 14; Park View 41, Freedom 13
Quick glance: Compared to recent seasons, these Sterling rivals will reverse roles this week. Potomac Falls enters Friday's game as the favorite with Park View looking to pull an upset. The Panthers are chock full of playmakers, while the Patriots have an emerging playmaker of their own in QB Brandon Lee.
Loudoun Valley (0-5) at Stonewall Jackson (0-5)
When: Oct. 10, 7:30 p.m.
Last season: Loudoun Valley 23-6
Last week: Fauquier 28, Loudoun Valley 0; Liberty 41, Stonewall Jackson 0
Quick glance: Both teams are coming off shutout losses that dropped their season records to 0-5. This matchup provides Valley with a prime opportunity to collect its initial win under first-year coach Danny McGrath.
Briar Woods (4-1) at Loudoun County (3-2)
When: Oct. 10, 7:30 p.m.
Last season: Briar Woods 49-14
Last week: Briar Woods 7, Dominion 0; Potomac Falls 47, Loudoun County 14
Quick glance: A pivotal game for both teams as they look to remain in the thick of the Dulles District race. The Falcons have mustered only seven points in their past two games, while County needs to rebound after a lopsided loss to the Panthers.
Heritage (3-2) at Freedom (1-4)
When: Oct. 10, 7:30 p.m.
Last season: Heritage 33-7
Last week: Broad Run 21, Heritage 13; Park View 41, Freedom 13
Quick glance: The Pride could not have faced a tougher schedule – Potomac Falls and Broad Run – to open Dulles District play. The schedule lightens up this week for Heritage as it attempts to put together a winning streak and stay in playoff contention.
Dominion (1-4) at Broad Run (5-0)
When: Oct. 11, 1:30 p.m.
Last season: Broad Run 34-17
Last week: Broad Run 21, Heritage 13; Briar Woods 7, Dominion 0
Quick glance: The Spartans have reeled off 15 consecutive regular-season victories. After surviving a tough challenge from a feisty Heritage squad last week, Broad Run is a heavy favorite to make it 16 in a row Saturday afternoon in Ashburn.
