Briefs: Tax exemptions, community meeting, top 10 library, heard saying
Supervisors decline tax relief requests because of shortfallCiting projections of a $176 million budget shortfall next year, the Board of Supervisors Oct. 7 rejected two requests for local tax exemptions.
The requests were made by nonprofits Reston Bible Church, which wants to move to Cascades, and the National Sporting Library in Middleburg. Supervisors said with less money coming in from residential real estate taxes, the county could not afford to approve the two requests, which would have cost the county about $200,000 in tax revenue annually.
