Raider golfers place seventh
Loudoun County carded a 317 for each of its rounds in the Virginia AA golf championships Oct. 13-14 at Old Trail Golf Club in Crozet. The Raiders' overall score of 634 was good for seventh place in the eight-team tournament.
Blacksburg fired a two-day total of 585 to win the the team championship, while William Monroe's Mikey Moyers carded a blistering 127 to easily claim the individual title.
The Raiders qualified for states by winning the Region II tournament. Brantley Kushner (149), Andrew Brenneman (154) and Kevin Cook (163) were County's top three scorers in each round of the state tourney. Dan Jackson shot 85 on his first round to factor into the team scoring, as did teammate Jon Youst (83) in round two.
Kushner, and Briar Woods' Michael Birmingham (149) were part of a three-way tie for 10th place individually. Broad Run's Kevin Yerks (153) and Freedom's Tyler Blake (161) also competed amongst the state's top golfers.
