Tropical storm prompts Kaine to declare emergency
In advance of Tropical Storm Hanna, Gov. Tim Kaine (D) declared a state of emergency Sept. 4, allowing state agencies to prepare and preposition resources as the potentially damaging storm approaches the state."Current forecasts predict Hanna will bring tropical storm force winds to Virginia, causing coastal flooding and the very real possibility of tornadoes and power outages," Kaine said in a statement. "Virginians should listen to their local government representatives and local news media for instructions for the duration of the storm."
According to Kaine, Virginia State Police, Virginia National Guard and the Virginia Department of Transportation have additional personnel on standby to respond to areas in the storm's path.
Forecasters predict the storm could hit Virginia beginning late Friday and remain in the region through Saturday.
