Volleyball roundup

Matches of Tuesday, September 16:

Loudoun County 3, Briar Woods 0

The Raiders won their ninth match of the season and their 37th overall with a 3-0 road sweep of the same Falcon squad that took district-unbeaten Heritage to five games Sept. 11. Senior Shaylin O'Connell led 11 kills and four blocks while junior Robin Marsala gave 15 assists and served five aces.

The County freshman and junior varsity volleyball squads are also perfect in 2008 with 8-0 and 11-0 marks, respectively.

Heritage 3, Freedom 0

The Pride won in South Riding by a combined score of 75-31. The usual suspects were at play for Heritage as junior Megan Beckwith bumped 14 digs, freshman Stephanie Yokoyama had 23 assists and sophomore Lian Bernett punched 10 kills.

The Eagles dealt with an unfamiliar lineup due to several players battling injuries.

Broad Run 3, Park View 0

The front line for the Spartans stepped up as upperclassman Kristen Burt teamed with sophomore Emily Sears and freshman Mallory Brickerd for at least five kills apiece. Burt led with 14 assists. For the Patriots, Tabby Pham knocked over five kills and Aby Burkel delivered 14 assists.

Potomac Falls 3, Dominion 1

Sophomore Tori Janowski had her typical all-around game with a team-leading 11 kills and 16 assists, serving five aces. Kerry Dwyer led with 15 digs and Alexa Campbell knocked back seven blocks. The Panthers move to 3-2 in Dulles play, 8-2 overall.
