Bulldogs dominate Vikings
A matchup of Loudoun's only two Group AAA high schools quickly turned into a one-sided affair Sept. 19 in Purcellville. Stone Bridge lit up Loudoun Valley's scoreboard for 57 points in the first half and cruised in the second half towards a 64-13 victory.
The Bulldogs (4-0) set a school record for points in a game after surpassing the 60-point plateau for the second straight contest. The Vikings (0-3) remained winless under first-year coach Danny McGrath, but did score their first points of the season in the loss.
Stone Bridge quarterback Patrick Thompson and running back Daniel Allen produced big games. Thompson completed 10 of 15 passes for 194 yards, delivering all four of his touchdown strikes in the second quarter. Allen rushed for 106 yards and three touchdowns on 15 carries, and also found the end zone on a 65-yard reception.
Bulldog receiver Nick Sheehan, who transferred from Loudoun Valley to Stone Bridge prior to this school year, hauled in two passes for 48 yards and a touchdown against his former team. John Bladel and Andrew Ansell also had touchdown receptions. Michael Prince led Stone Bridge with three receptions and scored on a 35-yard run.
Defensively, the Bulldogs picked off five passes. Bladel returned an interception 20 yards for a touchdown in the first quarter.
Loudoun Valley's scoring came through the air. Iain Motice connected with Onzy Elam on a 58-yard touchdown completion in the second quarter, and Derek Zook hooked up with Jake Cowne on a four-yard scoring pass in the fourth. Bernard Thompson paced the Viking running game with 70 yards on 12 carries.
Next up for Stone Bridge is a home date against McLean. Loudoun Valley will next host Osbourn Park. Both games are set for Sept. 26 at 7:30 p.m.
