Falcons roll past Hedgesville

The Briar Woods Falcons tuned up for the start of the Dulles District season with a 57-3 pounding of visiting Hedgesville (W.Va.) in their final non-district contest Sept. 19 in Brambleton.

The Falcons (3-0) racked up 489 yards of total offense while holding the Eagles' offense to negative yards in the runaway win. Austin Frattali continued to make strides in his first varsity season at quarterback. He completied 7 of 11 passes for 177 yards and three touchdowns compared to one interception.

Jake Ashton hauled in two of Frattali's passes for 92 yards and a score. Jeremy Gray and Brett Lefebvre were also on the receiving end of touchdown completions.

Briar Woods' running game produced 312 yards and three touchdowns. Matt Eisenman led a deep cast of Falcon backs with 142 yards and two trips to the end zone. Ray Taliaferro rushed for 88 yards and a score on just five carries.

Kicker David Clements connected on a 27-yard field goal to open the game's scoring, and converted all four of his extra point attempts. Gray also produced on special teams, returning a kickoff 96 yards for a touchdown on the first play of the second half.

The Falcons held Hedgesville to just a second-quarter field goal. The defense recorded six sacks with Billy McDonald leading the charge with two. JT Bailey, Aaron Kakol, Bryan Mahoney and Ashton also delivered sacks.

Briar Woods will square off against defending Dulles champ Broad Run (3-0) to open district play Sept. 26 at 7:30 p.m.
