Opening Drive: Week 5
The fifth week of the 2008 varsity football season features the start of Dulles District play.
Here's a look at each of the matchups.
McLean (0-4) at Stone Bridge (4-0)
When: Sept. 26, 7:30 p.m.
Last season: Stone Bridge, 38-0
Last week: Stone Bridge 64, Loudoun Valley 13; Washington-Lee 21, McLean 14
Quick glance: Several Bulldogs will receive plenty of playing time in this one. Stone Bridge has defeated its first four opponents by an average of 42.5 points per game.
Briar Woods (3-0) at Broad Run (3-0)
When: Sept. 26, 7:30 p.m.
Last season: Broad Run, 21-15
Last week: Broad Run 53, Brentsville 13; Briar Woods 57, Hedgesville (W.Va.) 3
Quick glance: Spectators waited about 20 minutes just to enter the parking lot at Briar Woods for last year's meeting between the teams. With both squads undefeated going into this matchup, expect another packed house Friday night in Ashburn.
Heritage (3-0) at Potomac Falls (3-0)
When: Sept. 26, 7:30 p.m.
Last season: Heritage, 15-0
Last week: Both teams were idle
Quick glance: A second showdown of undefeated teams to kick off Dulles District play. The Potomac Falls Panthers are 2-0 at home this season, while the Pride rallied to win at South Lakes in their only road contest thus far.
Loudoun County (2-1) at Park View (1-2)
When: Sept. 26, 7:30 p.m.
Last season: Park View, 51-26
Last week: Both teams were idle
Quick glance: An interesting matchup between one team (County) looking to break into the upper half of the Dulles District against another team (Park View) attempting to stay there. Both squads earned pivotal non-district wins in their previous games prior to the bye.
Freedom (1-2) at Dominion (0-3)
When: Sept. 26, 7:30 p.m.
Last season: Dominion, 35-7
Last week: George 36, Freedom 21; Tuscarora (Md.) 39, Dominion 14
Quick glance: Expect this game to be much closer than the 2007 matchup. The Eagles are improved and will be anxious to turn in a better performance against the Titans this time.
Osbourn Park (3-1) at Loudoun Valley (0-3)
When: Sept. 26, 7:30 p.m.
Last season: Osbourn Park, 10-0
Last week: Bridge 64, Loudoun Valley 13; Osbourn Park 23, Gar-Field 7
Quick glance: After facing two of the top AAA teams in the state -- Woodbridge and Stone Bridge – in consecutive weeks, the schedule does not get much easier for the Vikings as they begin Cedar Run District play.
