Dominion High School will  hold an interest meeting regarding the formation of an Athletic Booster Club on Aug. 17 at 7:30 p.m. in the school's media center.

Run for the Door

The second annual Run for the Door 5K race to benefit Loudoun Habitat for Humanity is Sept. 13 at 21355 Ridgetop Circle in Sterling.

The certified 5K course is a fast run and perfect for all ages. The 5K starts at 9 a.m. and the 1K Kids Fun Run begins at 8:30 am.

Everyone is invited to join the event as a runner, and enthusiastic volunteers and/or spectators are also welcomed.

Register online at www.runforthedoor.com or call 301-871-0400 for more information. In-person registration and race packet pickup are Sept. 12, from 3-7 p.m. at Potomac River Running in Ashburn. Registration is also available the day of the race at the event.


King of track

Bruce McBarnette, an attorney from Loudoun County,  won the high jump event for men ages 50 and older at the World Masters Track and Field Championships Aug. 4 in Lahti, Finland.

McBarnette cleared 1.90 meters (six feet, two and three-fourths inches) at the event.  This was McBarnette's sixth World Championship victory for his age group. 


Baseball camp

Georgetown University's baseball team will host its annual Fall Prospect Baseball Camp on Sept. 13 at Georgetown Preparatory School in North Bethesda, Md.

The camp is open to all high school students and will involve instruction from Hoyas' coaches and players. The daylong camp starts at 10 a.m.

Lange to box locally

Northern Virginia boxer Jimmy Lange (30-3-2, 21 KOs) returns to the ring Sept. 26 at George Mason University's Patriot Center in Fairfax.

Lange will defend his World Boxing Council U.S. National Boxing Championship 154-pound title against Jonathan Reid (34-11, 19 KOs) in a 12-round main event.

Babe Ruth manager

Greater Loudoun Babe Ruth is accepting applications for  manager of the 14-year-old World Series host team.

The Babe Ruth 14U World Series will be held at Fireman's Field in Purcellville in August 2010.

Applicants must provide a detailed coaching resume and plans for training and fundraising. E-mail interest and other details to president@glbr.org.


Local Senior Olympics

The Northern Virginia Senior Olympics, for adults 50 and older, will be Sept. 12-23 at various locations. The games will feature more than 20 events, including tennis, racquetball, billiards, chess and cribbage.
