'America's Most Wanted' to air Ashburn girl's case

A Loudoun County criminal investigation more than six years old will be featured on “America's Most Wanted” Feb. 28.

On July 29, 2002, 14-year-old Erica Heather Smith disappeared from her Ashburn home. Eleven days later, her body was found buried in a shallow grave in the woods by the Beaumeade Corporate Park in Ashburn. Her killer is still at large.

A crew from “America's Most Wanted” filmed Erica's story in Loudoun last year. Since the filming, Erica's parents, Pamela Dade and William Smith, have been waiting anxiously for their daughter's story to air.

We are still very optimistic that our daughter's case will be solved,” Smith said. “It's not a matter of whether it will be, it's a matter of when it will be.”

Anyone who may have information on this case is asked to call the Loudoun County Sheriff's Office at 703-777-0475. Those wishing to remain anonymous can call Loudoun Crime Solvers at 703-777-1919. A $16,000 reward is being offered for information that leads to an arrest and indictment.

America's Most Wanted” airs on Fox Saturday nights at 9 p.m. It is filmed at the National Museum of Crime and Punishment in Washington, D.C.

It is a shame that our illustrious Sheriff's department can not solve this murder. Bu then again, when you devote most of your deputies to handing out speeding tickets rather than solving crimes this is what you get. Possibly the real problem is we need a new Sheriff in Loudoun County!!!
