Man dies in Route 9 crash

A 33-year-old West Virginia man died in a crash on Route 9 between Waterford and Hamilton the morning of March 23.

Michael Johnson, of Ranson, W.Va., was driving a 2002 Saturn sedan eastbound on Route 9 near Hamilton Station Road when he crossed the double yellow line and struck a 2002 Chevrolet S-10 head on, a spokesman with the Loudoun County Sheriff's Office said.

The S-10 was being driven by George Hoover, 37, of Harpers Ferry, W.Va. Johnson died in the crash, and Hoover was airlifted to Inova Loudoun Hospital with serious injuries.

The crash shut down traffic on Route 9 for about two hours.
