Fibromyalgia walkers invite guests

Anyone who has the debilitating condition known as Fibromyalgia is already aware of it. For the rest of the world, May 12 is Fibromyalgia Awareness Day.

Members of a local support group, which includes those with Fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue syndrome, will meet at 1 p.m. , May 12 in front of Lord and Taylor (main floor) at the Dulles Town Center for their weekly walk and get together.

Because the condition is unpredictable, walkers will set their own pace, and walk only as far as is comfortable.

"Our purpose is to help people communicate with each other since they often feel alone, to share information, and most important to live your life in a positive manner," said Patti Laycock, one of the group's founders.

In the past, Fibromyalgia Awareness Day organized one large walk in Anaheim, Calif. This year, the plan is for communities across the country to sponsor their own walks.

The local group meets the third Wednesday of every month at the Cascades library, and the Walk and Talk group meets every Tuesday at the shopping mall.
