Volunteers needed
The Greater Loudoun Babe Ruth baseball league will host its annual Mickie Gordon Memorial Tournament May 22-25, with several leagues from around the region competing in nearly 50 games throughout Loudoun.

Karate gold
Nine-year-old Ashburn resident Whitney Saunders won a karate gold medal in her age and skill group at the Virginia AAU Region II tournament May 3 at Broad Run High School.
The tournament featured competitors from around Northern Virginia and the Washington Metro area.
Saunders, a brown belt, has improved nine levels since starting her training in 2007.
Feeling special
The Loudoun-based Special Forces track team won two gold medals at the Firebird Invitational May 16 in Clarksburg, Md. Jessica Rolle sprinted 100 meters in 12.7 seconds, while Jackie Deffer won the 1,500-meter run in 5:23.
At the Hershey local qualifying meet May 17 at Heritage High School, the team won golds for boys and girls in the 13- to 14-year-old division in 100-, 200- and 400-meter runs and the long jump.
Rassaun Goldrin and Quentin Reynolds each won two golds for the boys, while the girls saw Cat Wyatt take the 100 meters and Jordan Harvey win the 200 meters. Mark Melbourne produced the best mark in the long jump.
Kenney runs top 10
Sterling-based auto racer Liam Kenney, 17, came in sixth and ninth in two races May 9-10 in the ADAC Formula Masters Championship on a 2.83-mile track at Assen, Netherlands.
He had qualified for the pole in both races. Kenney will next compete May 22 at the Nurburgring Circuit in Nurburg, Germany.
40th anniversary
A reunion of the 1968-1969 Loudoun County Raider basketball team will take place June 27 in honor of the 40 years since the team and school were completely integrated.
