Man sentenced in child sex sting
A 52-year-old Charles Town, W.Va., man was sentenced May 22 in federal court to 10 years in prison for traveling to Leesburg with the intent of having sexual encounters with two girls, ages 12 and 13.
The arrangement had actually been set up by two undercover police officers, and the girls never existed.
Douglas Hunt, who was working as an elementary school teacher at the time of his arrest in December 2008 pleaded guilty Feb. 27, to sexual enticement of a minor, Department of Justice spokesman Peter Carr said.
Hunt was also sentenced to 10 years of supervised probation following his release from prison and will be required to register as a sex offender in any U.S. jurisdiction where he lives, works or attends school.
As a special condition of his supervised release, Hunt will be required to surrender any teaching licenses he holds in any state including, but not limited to, West Virginia, Carr said.
According to court documents and proceedings, on Dec. 3, 2008, Hunt responded to an Internet ad by an undercover detective with the Leesburg Police Department.
Further communication with Hunt resulted in his offer to pay $200 for sexual activity with two girls, ages 12 and 13.
On Dec. 4, 2008, Hunt arrived at a prearranged location in Leesburg, paid the undercover detective and obtained a hotel room key for the room where the young girls were allegedly waiting. Hunt was subsequently arrested on his way to the hotel room.
