Man charged with manslaughter for July incident

Allegedly setting off fireworks from the back of a moving pickup truck has resulted in an involuntary manslaughter charge for a Centreville man.

Police are accusing Kyle A. Guthrie, 19, of setting off fireworks from the back of a 2001 GMC pickup that was traveling on Donegal Drive near Mandeville Drive in South Riding shortly after 12:30 a.m. July 19, said Loudoun County Sheriff's Office spokesman Kraig Troxell.

Dennis Ray Ross, 19, was also riding in the bed of the truck and jumped out when Guthrie ignited the fireworks. He was injured while jumping out of the moving truck and died six days later at Inova Fairfax Hospital from the injuries.

Guthrie was arraigned in Loudoun County General District Court Nov. 18 and has been released from custody on a personal recognizance bond.
