Christmas tree fever at Meadows

At Meadows Farms Nurseries on Route 7, candy-striped poles line the lot, awaiting the arrival of the season's most popular Christmas trees. Customers can take a break from searching through the pines and firs to enjoy hot apple cider and coffee around a warm bonfire, setting the mood for the holiday season.

Meadows Farms, east of Leesburg, remains one of the most popular places for families to purchase Christmas trees. With more than 2,000 trees arriving Nov. 19 from North Carolina suppliers, the nursery is in full preparation for the beginning of sales, which begins in earnest the Friday after Thanksgiving. Meadows Farms prides itself in providing quality trees at low prices, starting at $29.

"Our most popular tree, the Fraser fir, displays a full, neat look, with shorter needles and strong branches, ideal for ornaments," said assistant manager Tim Davis. The Fraser fir features dark green needles, 1/2 to 1 inch long, and gives off a fresh, natural aroma.

Among the other trees sold at Meadows Farms are the Douglas fir, the Scotch pine and the white pine. The Scotch and white pines offer a more traditional look, bringing nostalgic memories to mind.

People are drawn to these trees because they grew up with them and buy them for family tradition,” Davis said.

Scotch and white pines have long, soft needles that tend to dry out faster. Meadows Farms sells a Tree Life product that is added to the tree's water supply, keeping it healthy throughout the holiday season.

For almost 50 years, Meadows Farms Nurseries has offered a variety of popular Christmas trees and a holiday setting that attracts many families during the Christmas season.

We offer a great experience for families to enjoy,” Davis said.
