County awaits PATH rulings

Hundreds of people showed up at the Lovettsville Community Center Nov. 19 to voice their opinions on the Potomac-Appalachian Transmission Highline planned to cross Loudoun County for 10 miles north of Lovettsville.

Virginia State Corporation Commission Hearing Examiner Alexander Skirpan heard public testimony, which was preceded by several attorneys filing motions to dismiss application and a motion by American Electric Power and Allegheny Power to extend the timeline on the application.

Skirpan said he would rule on the motion within days but had not done so as of Nov. 23.

If passed, PATH would be a 275-mile, 765,000-volt power line that would stretch from West Virginia to Maryland.

Opponents of the application say the line is not needed.

Anyone who did not get to speak at the public hearing Nov. 19 can file comments on the SCC Web site at scc.virginia.gov/case/PublicComments.aspx by Jan. 12, 2010.
