The robber is described as a black man, 5 feet 5 inches to 5 feet 8 inches and about 220 pounds, Leesburg Police spokesman Officer Chris Jones said.

The robber was last seen wearing a black baseball hat, a multicolored scarf over a black jacket, a black shirt and black pants.

Witnesses say that when the robber left the store, he entered a black four-door vehicle that was last seen heading west out of the parking lot, Jones said.

Leesburg Police are asking anyone with information about this incident to call 703-771-4500. Those who wish to remain anonymous can call 703-443-TIPS.

Items stolen from 20 vehicles in Waterford, Leesburg

The Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office is reminding residents to always lock their car doors after a series of thefts from vehicles in the Waterford and Leesburg areas.

Police were called to the Waterford Ridge and Waterford Heights subdivisions the morning of Oct. 7 after residents reported that items had been removed from their vehicles, Loudoun County Sheriff's Office spokesman Kraig Troxell said.

In all, 12 vehicles in those subdivisions were entered, and items removed include a gun, a wedding ring, cash, cell phones, sunglasses, portable DVD players and five GPS units. Total losses and damages from the case are estimated at $18,280, Troxell said.

The thefts happened between 10 p.m. Oct. 6 and 5:30 a.m. Oct. 7 when someone entered vehicles on Bankfield Drive, Highview Court, Sunset Hill Lane, Pavlo Place, Barlow Drive and Carver Court. Police believe all of the vehicles were unlocked, Troxell said.

Larcenies from vehicles are often a crime of opportunity,” Loudoun Sheriff Steve Simpson said. “Locking your vehicle and removing or concealing high-dollar items will greatly reduce your chances of becoming a victim.”

Simpson reminds residents to park in well-lit areas, activate alarm systems, use anti-theft devices and immediately report any suspicious activity to the Loudoun Sheriff’s Office at 703-777-1021.

At about 7:15 a.m. Oct. 7, deputies also responded to a report of an abandoned vehicle in a field along Old Waterford Road that appeared to have been in an accident.

The vehicle, a 2006 Ford, was determined to be stolen from a home on Browns Lane in Paeonian Springs. Police called the owner, who was unaware the car had been taken, Troxell said.

The owner said the vehicle was left unlocked with the keys inside.

Two nearby residents on Old Waterford Road and Creek Lane said their fences were damaged. Police believe the stolen vehicle may have been involved in damaging the fences. The auto theft is likely related to the vehicle larcenies in the Waterford area, Troxell said.

Then, on the heels of the incidents in the Waterford area, items were removed from eight vehicles in the Leesburg area.

Police believe those larcenies happened overnight between Oct. 11 and Oct. 12. The vehicles entered were along Drummond Place, Malloch Place, Meadowood Court, Potomac Station Drive and Cardston Place, Troxell said.

Items removed included GPS units, CDs, a satellite radio unit, sunglasses, cash and a digital camera. Some of the items were recovered in the area of the larcenies.

A garage door opener was removed from a vehicle on Waters Overlook Court in the Lakes of Red Rock community. It is unclear if this is related to the other incidents, Troxell said.

Anyone with information on these incidents is asked to call the Sheriff's Office at 703-777-1021. Those who wish to remain anonymous can call Loudoun Crime Solvers at 703-777-1919.

Anyone with information leading to an arrest and indictment could be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000.
