Update: Nov. 15

An arraignment is set for Rose McGowan for 11:15 a.m. Thursday in Loudoun County District Court.

McGowan has said she intends to plead not guilty, according to The New Yorker.

Original story: Nov. 14

Actress Rose McGowan, one of the leading and most vocal accusers claiming sexual assault by Harvey Weinstein, was booked on a drug charge in Loudoun County Tuesday.

McGowan was charged with felony possession of a controlled substance and released on a $5,000 unsecured bond. The Class 5 felony charge “stems from a police investigation of personal belongings that tested positive for narcotics and were left behind on a flight (United 653) arriving at Washington Dulles International Airport on Jan. 20,” according to a spokesman for the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority.

After apparently learning about the charge last month, McGowan, whose name has hit the headlines with the onslaught on Weinstein coverage, tweeted: “Are they trying to silence me? There is a warrant out for my arrest in Virginia. What a load of HORSES—.”

McGowan is best known for her appearance in the TV series “Charmed” and her role in the first "Scream" film.

She looks worn out. Leave that stuff alone, detox!

So the ‘personal belongings’ weren’t in her possession when they were discovered to contain drugs?  The belongings were left unattended in a plane with 300 other people?  Seems like a chain of custody problem with this one.  An attorney will ask, “Who’s to say someone didn’t ditch their drugs by stuffing them into an unattended bag?”

It is really sad Loudooun Independent that you believe she should be placed in the adult detention center for this.

So we have the Loudoun County BOS chair testifying to Congress that addiction is a disease and should be treated as such.  Then, we have a prominent actress arrested here in Loudoun because she was using an illegal drug.

McGowan doesn’t have kids.  There is no evidence she was operating a potentially dangerous vehicle or equipment.  Who cares then? Why do we legislate these substances?  Even if you argue there should be penalties when drugs interfere with responsibilities, that was not the case here.

I’ve never used illicit drugs.  But I can’t understand why we expend so many resources controlling how others spend their lives.

welocme to loudoun.  i think we have room in the adult detention center for one more.
