The Ashburn mom who invented GloveStix and ShoeStix – a portable odor-management solution – will appear on ABC's hit series "Shark Tank" Nov. 5 at 10 p.m.

Krista Woods said she is nervous and excited about seeing her upcoming appearance. She competed against 50,000 other people to get a spot on the show.

“It is harder than it looks. Apparently it is more difficult to air on 'Shark Tank' than to get into Harvard,” Woods said.

The show was filmed over the summer, and since then Woods has not been able to tell anyone what she has been up to.

“I've been so busy, and now I can scream it to the world why. I am so relieved,” she said.

Woods is no stranger to TV – she won the "Today Show's" Next Big Thing contest in April 2016 – and soon thereafter made an appearance on QVC selling her GloveStix products.

“'The Today Show' and QVC helped put me on the map,” she said.

Woods created the product after dealing with her kids' pungent post-game athletic gear. The GloveStix are designed to be used in athletic gloves, shoes, boots and skates to kill bacteria and absorb odor.

Woods said business is going “really well,” and she has developed a loyal following of repeat customers.

She has sold 22,000 GloveStix since June 2015 and 2,000 ShoeStix since they were launched in June 2017. The company has also sold 14,700 refill sticks.

“I now have taken more risk, and had to put more money into the business in order to buy more product. I also left my other job to to run this company,” Woods said.

In addition to the national attention she has received, Woods has been nominated for some local awards – one being the Loudoun County Chamber of Commerce's Small Business awards. She is a finalist in the Innovative Business of the Year and Entrepreneur of the Year categories, which will be announced Thursday night.
