Longtime Ashburn resident Brandon Diaz is in the running to be the next "American Idol."

The Briar Woods High School graduate auditioned for the reality TV show in New York City this past October, and Loudouners can see how he did when the show airs on March 11 and 12.

Diaz’s mother, Sherri Diaz, said her son was born to sing.

“With Brandon, it was a natural thing. We could sometimes hear him singing as a toddler, in the morning, from his room,” Sherri Diaz said.

This was Diaz’s second time auditioning for the show, and Sherri Diaz said that while he was anxious and nervous, he was also excited and ready. His Oct. 4 audition also happened to be his late grandmother’s birthday. She was also a talented singer with a beautiful voice, Sherri Diaz said.

"American Idol" is a singing competition series that began airing on FOX in 2002 and ended April 2016. The series is making its second debut on ABC March 11.
