BackPack Program

The Blue Ridge Area Food Bank is providing hundreds of Loudoun County children take-home meals and snacks this month through its BackPack Program. The program provides at-risk elementary school children with enough food for weekends and holidays throughout the school year. The food provided includes oatmeal, green beans, fruit, ravioli, 100 percent juice and shelf-stable milk in addition to other food items.

The program is supporting children at Sugarland Run and Guilford elementary schools in Sterling thanks in part to a $25,000 grant from 100 Women Strong and the volunteer efforts of N.E.W. Customer Service Companies employees to fill the bags.

The Food Bank provides bags to 360 area children each week and for the year, the program costs $68,000, about $187 per child served.
