Bernie Sanders gets some ‘Stile’ from Leesburg makeup artist
How do you spruce up a 74-year-old socialist?
Call Victoria Stiles.
Stiles, a Leesburg-based hair and makeup artist, was the woman behind the curtain for Democratic presidential candidate Sanders' recent TIME magazine cover shot. The issue hit newsstands today.
“Got the call Monday night from TIME magazine to work with the one and only Bernie Sanders ... and it was shot by longtime fellow colleague Stephen Voss,” noted Stiles, who owns A Little Wedding Studio in downtown Leesburg. “Story went live today. Was an epic time! #feelthebern.”
"Feel the Bern" has become the rallying cry for Sanders' loyal band of followers. Along with Donald Trump, the self-professed Democratic socialist Sanders has consistently drawn the largest crowds of 2016 presidential candidates.
The Sanders TIME shoot was far from Stiles' first brush with celebrity. She's prepped Vice President Joe Biden (D), business mogul Richard Branson, NBA Hall of Famer Magic Johnson, the Washington Wizards' Bradley Beal, Federal Reserve Chair Janet Yellen and about a dozen other celebs.
“I've worked with TIME on many occasions in the past so their photo editor reached out to me for the shoot, which was scheduled for the very next day,” Stiles told the Times-Mirror this afternoon. “I did have to move some things around, but thankfully I have accommodating clients.”
She conceded there were some nerves on her end.
“With Sen. Sanders gaining ground in his campaign, I was excited and a little nervous about the opportunity. He could very well be our next President,” she said.
While still trailing Democratic front-runner Hillary Clinton by roughly 20 percent in national polls, Sanders has been steadily gaining ground on the former first lady in recent weeks.
