Bluemont woman killed in Route 50 crash

A Bluemont woman died Friday afternoon after a two-car collision near the intersection of St. Louis Road and Route 50 in Fauquier County.

Virginia State Police have identified the victim as Kathryn Morton Krista, 41, of Bluemont. Krista was a veterinarian with Piedmont Equine Practice in The Plains.

State Police say 21-year-old Wilian A. Mendoza was driving westbound on Route 50 around 5 p.m. when he crossed the center line and struck a 2016 Ford Explorer driven by Krista, who died at the scene.

Mendoza, of Stephens City, was driving a 2004 Dodge Durango. He was transported to Inova Fairfax Hospital.

The crash remains under investigation, according to Virginia State Police, and no charges have been filed.

Fauquier County and Loudoun County authorities responded to the scene.

I don’t understand how you can cross the center line, kill someone, and not be charged.  This is my worst fear ... driving on our dual lane county roads.  You put your life in everyone’s hands when you get behind the wheel.  What a tragedy for this girl and her family and friends.
