Catoctin Creek partners with D.C. steakhouse

Loudoun County’s first distillery since before prohibition has teamed up with a prominent restaurant in Washington, D.C. to debut a new custom whiskey.

Catoctin Creek Distillery and J&G Steakhouse debuted ‘515,’ a custom handcrafted whiskey Oct. 9.

The custom product is being produced by Catoctin Creek and served exclusively at J&G Steakhouse. It will be served in the main dining room, the cozy wine bar, on the patio and at the W Hotel’s sky-high lounge.

This is the first collaboration of this caliber for either notable brand.

Following an exclusive event hosted by J&G Steakhouse’s Sommelier Guy Golan and Catoctin Creek owner Scott Harris, Golan and Harris began to brainstorm and experiment with the possibility of crafting a private label whiskey.

“When we started brainstorming about doing a custom blend, we thought it would be really neat to have this as the house blend of whiskey for J&G Steakhouse,” Harris said. “It was an exciting thing for us being a relatively young, new company to have an opportunity to do that for such a big company like J&G and W Hotels so we jumped at it.”

The blend showcases two of Catoctin Creek’s most popular and award-winning whiskeys, Mosby’s Spirit and Roundstone Rye.

“The two elements that go into the blend are the already existing Mosby’s Spirit and Roundstone Rye,” Harris said. “We blend in about 25 percent Mosby Spirit and 75 percent Roundstone Rye.”

Each bottle of ‘515’ is aged under two years in new oak barrels and distilled and bottled by hand. Each bottle then comes numbered revealing glimpses of just how much time, care and energy went into crafting this rare product.

According Golan, the ‘515’ name is in honor of the historic address of the W Hotel in downtown D.C.

The Harrises are excited for the partnership and what the future may hold for their business.

“This was an exciting and creative opportunity to look at our products in a whole new way”, Scott Harris said in a news release. “The tasting notes of this 100 percent rye blend reveals rich flavors of stone fruit, sugar cane and leather.”
