Collision involving tanker truck causes hazmat situation in Hamilton; woman airlifted to hospital

A car and tanker truck collided at approximately 5:30 a.m. Wednesday on West Colonial Highway, just east of Route 704 in Hamilton, according to Virginia State Police.

The female driver of the car was flown to Reston Hospital for treatment of serious, but non-life threatening, injuries.

The driver of the tanker truck was not injured in the crash. The impact of the crash damaged the tanker. The fuel leakage has been contained, and the situation is being handled as a hazardous materials incident, according to VSP.

The crash remains under investigation.
