Democrat announces 34th District candidacy, will run against Comstock

Call it the “Battle of the Political Consultants.”

Virginia Del. Barbara Comstock (R-34th) will be challenged by McLean Democrat Kathleen Johnson Murphy in this November’s House of Delegates election. Murphy recently filed paperwork to run for the seat, according to the Virginia Public Access Project.

Murphy is a veteran consultant and the president of Johnson Murphy and Associates, according to her bio for the McLean Community Foundation. She served in the Clinton Administration as a Senior Advisor for International Trade issues at the Department of Commerce, and before that worked for Congressman Charlie Wilson on House Appropriations Committee issues.

Additionally, Murphy serves on the Human Services Council and the Health Care Task Force for Fairfax County, the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, and Women’s Campaign International. She helped found Salute Our Services, which was created to connect families of the deployed, and Kids Serve Too, an organization serving military dependent children.

The House of Delegates 34th District covers portions of Great Falls, McLean, Vienna and parts of eastern Loudoun County. Comstock was first elected to the House of Delegates in 2009, winning that year with less than 51 percent of the vote to incumbent Margaret Vanderhye’s 49 percent. In 2011, she secured nearly 55 percent of the vote to challenger Pamela Danner’s 45 percent. Comstock was formerly a lobbyist and political consultant, and is a founding partner and co-principal of public policy and public relations firm Corallo Comstock.

In 2012, Comstock served as an adviser for Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney.

Lordie, it looks like big Babs has a race now!  No more size 14 pant suits in the statehouse….. The Lord bets the ex “Angel” is gonna open up a can of whoop azzzzz on Karl Rove’s secretary!  This is gonna be great!  Ahhhhhh!  Hey Babs - say no to bushmasters in Churchill school and the government in my daughters doctors office!

Murphy is tireless, honest and smart. She will make a great delegate. Comstock, on the other hand, focuses on vaginal ultrasound bills.
