Farm-to-Fork Loudoun crowdfunding to spread the word

Farm-to-Fork Loudoun will use crowdfunding to support the marketing of its 11-day locavore event starting in July.

The Kickstarter event, which has already begun, is a little different than traditional crowdfunding campaigns where money goes directly to manufacturing a product or to the costs of putting on an event.

Farm-to-Fork will use the lion's share of money they raise to bolster its marketing and certain expenses related to promoting the event.

In particular, Farm-to-Fork hopes to hire a blogger, increase their social media presence, have "larger on-the-ground distribution of flyers and other materials to reach a larger geographic area" and focus on attracting people from nearby regional centers in Pennsylvania, Maryland, Richmond and the district.

Through Farm-to-Fork Loudoun restaurants from all over Loudoun agree to use ingredients which are at least 70 percent sourced from inside Loudoun County.

The project has a partnership with nearly 30 restaurant, farm and winery partners currently.

Kickstarter is a space to sell your wares and let the community decide whether or not to buy the product.

Donations will begin at $15 and go up to $1,500. Rewards are given based on the amount donated.
