Loudoun youth soccer players can now officially learn the craft the FC Barcelona way in Leesburg.

FC Barcelona Escola Northern Virginia celebrated its grand opening at Evergreen Sportsplex Wednesday. The escola — Portuguese for school — will serve 1,000 to 1,200 athletes this season, with a potential for growth in the future, spokesman Rusty Foster said.

The program costs $2,750 per player, according to Foster.

An estimated 17,000 Loudoun County youths play soccer, and Evergreen Sportsplex is the only facility in North America that features four FIFA-certified soccer fields.

The season runs September to June, and the school will also offer summer camps. Throughout the year, club teams will compete throughout the country and even internationally, Foster said.

The school is open to youths age 6 to 18 and prides itself on instilling the “Barça methodology” in athletes, which the organization describes as a creative and attacking brand of soccer and the promotion of positive values such as respect, effort, ambition, teamwork and modesty.

Foster said the escola will bring international visitors and, eventually, Evergreen Sportsplex may host games for traveling club teams.

“I’ve always said this is an international revenue source,” Foster said. “With this partnership comes access and relationships with corporate partners at the local level.”

All instructors and coaches are certified through FC Barcelona. FC Barcelona is a professional soccer club based in Barcelona, Spain that competes in the Spanish La Liga. The $3.6 billion franchise was drawn to Loudoun because of its proximity to Dulles International Airport and Washington D.C., steady population growth and the large regional interest in youth soccer.

$2,750 per player…uh, yeah, not going to happen for my 7-yr old.  $300…maybe?  Not $$2,750.
Great concept, but price is way out of my range.  Good luck to them though!
