Herring announces office changes

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) -- Attorney General Mark Herring says he's instituting changes to make his office run more efficiently and bring transparency to its operations.

Herring says the office is procuring case management and document management software to replace current methods that involve extensive paper copies. He says the changes will make it easier to track cases and meet deadlines.

The office also has hired its first compliance and transparency counsel, who will oversee compliance with Freedom of Information Act requests, conflict of interest laws and internal ethics policies.

Herring is also instituting a policy on the hiring and management of outside counsel.
