Americans from coast to coast are memorializing those who lost their lives and were impacted by the 9/11 terrorist attacks on the 16th anniversary Monday.

In Leesburg, town officials gathered at the Freedom Memorial at Freedom Park Monday morning.

In Purcellville, local residents are invited to the annual 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony tonight at 6:30 p.m. The ceremony will be held at the First Responders Monument near the Historic Bush Tabernacle located at 250 South Nursery Ave. The First Responders Monument was dedicated in 2011. The steel beam on the top of the monument is a piece of Tower Two of the World Trade Center, and the base of the monument is comprised of stone from a barn near Shanksville, Pennsylvania.

Dozens gathered for the Town of Leesburg's ceremony Monday morning.
