UPDATE: Leesburg and Purcellville police investigating reports of KKK materials

UPDATE 6:49 p.m. Jan. 13:

The Purcellville Police Department is also investigating accounts of KKK materials distributed overnight Jan. 12.

The materials were distributed in the area of the Pickwick Drive neighborhood, according to town officials. Acting Chief of Police Joseph Schroek said by email that he did not believe a specific family had been targeted and more than 50 plastic baggies with KKK materials had been left on residents' driveways.

The unknown subjects who distributed the bags may not face much more than littering charges if found, Schroek said. Purcellville Police have collected most of the bags and are coordinating with residents to see if the subjects were captured on security camera footage.

ORIGINAL STORY:

Leesburg Police are investigating several incidents involving propaganda fliers being distributed by individuals claiming to be Ku Klux Klan (KKK) members throughout the northeast quadrant of town.

Shortly after 10 p.m. Friday, Leesburg Police received the first report of suspicious fliers found outside of a home in the 700 block of Aurora Court NE, according to an LPD release. The Loudoun Chapter of the NAACP received a report from a resident who saw the materials being thrown out of a silver car last night, Loudoun NAACP President Phillip Thompson said.

LPD said the fliers appeared to contain propaganda material and were most likely distributed because of the national holiday Monday that honors the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

As with previous incidents involving similar fliers this past fall, Leesburg investigators will work with local, state and federal partners to identify any potential threats to the community.

Anyone with information regarding the incident is encouraged to call police at 703-771-4500 or leave an anonymous tip at the Leesburg Crime Line at 703-443-TIPS (8477).

Information can also be sent using TIPSUBMIT via text. Text 274637 (CRIMES) and begin your message with LPDTIP.

Probably left wing radicals doing this.

One day these folks will be caught on somebody’s home camera.

Haters gonna hate.  Let’s hope that someday we’ll get past this racist, hateful nonsense and realize that whatever our color or heritage, we’re all in this together and either we all win or or we all lose…

I suppose this might be a violation of anti littering laws, but do the police investigate every case of people spreading fliers around the county? Let me be clear; I abhor the KKK. What it did in Charlottesville was reprehensible. However, we do have freedom of speech.  “I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it”

I see Comstock is offering a reward if they catch these people. They broke no law except Barbara’s that I can see. If she can curtail the KKK who next the Black Panthers, the Nation of Islam or republicans and democrats.
