The Leesburg Police Department is investigating a fatal stabbing within the town limits Sunday night.

Shortly after 9 p.m., the LPD received a report of a stabbing victim in the 1000 block of Wythe Court. When police arrived, they found a 47-year-old man suffering from an apparent stab wound. The man was pronounced dead at the scene, according to LPD. The identity of the victim is being withheld until next of kin notification is made.

The circumstances that led to the stabbing are being investigated, said LPD spokesman Sam M. Shenouda.

Shenouda said the scene is contained, and there is no ongoing threat to the community. However, Leesburg police officials are classifying the incident as a homicide. They ask anyone with any information to contact the Criminal Investigations Section at 703-771-4500.
