While details remain outstanding, the Leesburg Police Department is investigating the suspicious death of a Leesburg woman.

At approximately 12:40 a.m. Friday officers were contacted by members of the victim’s family, concerned because they had been unable to make contact with her for several days.

Responding to her apartment at the 800 block of Edwards Ferry Road in Leesburg in The Fields, officers discovered a deceased Hispanic woman in her early 20s.

According to information provided by Master Police Officer C.F. Tidmore, the death is being considered suspicious. The victim’s identity has not yet been revealed.

The mood on scene in the community on Friday was somber.

Several boys sat on the steps of the building where the young woman lived. Candles and flowers already had been placed on the steps to the entrance of her building, mourning her death.

“I just want to make sure it’s not my friend,” said D.J. King, 15, as he hung his head and held one of the flowers in his hand.

The boys said talk through the community was that someone heard several women screaming in the apartment in the late hours of the night.

Police were seen early today carrying out carpet and other evidence from the apartment.

“I don’t know who it is. I really want to find out. It brings bad attention to our neighborhood,” said 14-year-old Nelson Lovos.

Other community members said they were shocked by the severity of the scene, but the neighborhood itself had been riddled with crime for months.

“This year, there’s been slashed tires, broken back windows and rumors of gangs. Everybody reports it to the office, but they say they can’t do anything,” said Juan Garcia, 43, as he was walking out of his apartment.

More information will be released as it becomes available.
