The Loudoun Small Business Development Center will hold a “Start Your Business” seminar from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Sept. 12 at the Mason Enterprise Center, 202 Church St. SE, Leesburg.
Participants will be led through the steps of successfully starting a small business. Items to be addressed include taxes, licensing, business plan development and the types of insurance needed.
Registration is available for $10 at LoudounSBDC.eventbrite.com or at the door for $15. Seating and handouts are not guaranteed for those who register at the door.
Entries are being accepted for the 5th Annual Business Plan Competition. K2M Inc., of Leesburg, is sponsoring the competition, where local business leaders will critique the submitted plans and give feedback. Winners will be named in two award categories: Local Business Model and Scalable Business Model. First prize in the Local Business Model category is $1,000 with a local business services prize package, second prize is $500 and third prize is $250. In the Scalable Business Model category, first prize is $1,500 with a private lunch with Eric Major of K2M, second prize is $750 and third prize is $500. Plans must be 25 or fewer pages and include a minimum of three pages of financials. They must be submitted electronically by 5 p.m. Oct. 9. For more information, visit LoudounSBDC.org.
