UPDATE: Sterling man charged in attempted armed robbery at Dulles Mattress Warehouse

Update: June 16, 12:50 p.m.

Christopher M. Coghlan, 21, of Sterling, was apprehended Friday morning and charged with attempted robbery and wearing a mask in the commission of a robbery at Mattress Warehouse in Dulles Thursday. Coghlan remains held without bond at the Loudoun County Adult Detention Center.

Original story: June 15, 11:18 p.m.

The Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s assistance to help identify a suspect in the attempted robbery of a store in the Dulles Eastern Plaza.

Around 6 p.m. Thursday, the suspect entered the Mattress Warehouse store and demanded cash, according to the LCSO. The suspect implied he had a weapon. During the incident the suspect and an employee got into a verbal and physical altercation before the suspect fled the store. The victim received minor injuries during the incident.

Detectives have released surveillance video stills of the suspect who is described as a white or Hispanic male with a short and stocky build, short hair and some facial hair. He was wearing a black Golden State Warriors hat, a light blue or gray short sleeve shirt, gray colored cargo style shorts, and red high top shoes. He appeared to be in his mid-20s.

Anyone with any information regarding the possible identity of the suspect is asked to contact Detective M. Grimsley at 703-777-0475 or you may submit a tip through the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office app. The Loudoun Sheriff app is available on the iTunes App Store and Google Play.

Who would have known:

wearing a mask in the commission of a robbery

Wonder how many years that will add onto his sentence?

“Dumb Criminal of the Week”  ....goes to this gump; How he could have been a little smarter: maybe wear a real mask instead of your tent of a t-shirt. How he could have been a lot dumber: using his finger to stick up the joint, possibly take an nap if the lard got tired, or mistake sample foam for bags of cash…idk this fool can’t get any dumber, enough said

The money is IN the mattresses.

I am betting they will go after a Salvation Army donation center next.

First a dry cleaner and now a mattress store?

Yep, the criminals are definitely getting dumber.  Does anyone ever pay for a mattress with cash?

What type of criminal attempts to rob a mattress store? It’s not like a mattress store is sitting on piles of cash.

I wonder if the police can do facial recognition against the DMV database of photos. Chances are most criminals have obtained an ID in their life.
