Lovettsville man killed following police chase

A Lovettsville man died Monday in a car crash when his vehicle struck an embankment and overturned on Route 287 in Virginia after he was chased by police coming out of Brunswick, Md.

Randy L. Sutler, 32, was being questioned by Brunswick Police just after 9 p.m. for suspected vehicle tampering.

During questioning, police said Sutler took off in his vehicle, crossing over the bridge that connects Brunswick to Lovettsville, Va. According to the Brunswick Police, the officer chased him into the Commonwealth, but turned off the cruiser’s emergency lights and sirens upon reaching the Virginia border. However, the officer continued to follow Sutler south on Route 287, eventually discovering Sutler’s car overturned on the embankment.

Sutler apparently lost control of his 1992 Jeep Wrangler after crossing the northbound lane and hit an embankment just south of Eagle Rock Lane. The Jeep was overturned and Sutler was ejected. Police said he died on impact. No one else was injured in the accident.
