Maddox wins Leesburg Town Council seat

Vanessa Maddox defeated Joshua Thiel Tuesday for a one-year seat on Leesburg Town Council. Maddox won 47 percent of the vote to Thiel's 44 percent.

The seat came open after Kelly Burk was elected mayor last year. Interim Councilman Hugh Forsythe had served in the seat for most of the past year.

Maddox, who lives in Parkview Estates, began her career in information technology, and her platform focused on modernizing the town’s Internet access. As a member of Leesburg’s Economic Development Committee and Technology and Communications Commission, she discussed getting WiFi throughout Leesburg. She has said she would want to bring these discussions to the forefront if she were elected, championing technology advancements and improving Leesburg’s infrastructure.

Maddox has also been an advocate for women, particularly women in business.

“I love Leesburg because of the small-town feel,” she said earlier this year. “If I don’t go off our street, I feel like I’m in Mayberry.”
