Mayor of Leesburg announces re-election campaign

Leesburg Mayor Kristen Umstattd announced Jan. 24 that she will be seeking another term n in this year's November town elections.

Umstattd is currently serving her sixth term as mayor of Leesburg; she has been on the town council in some capacity since 1992, including one term as vice mayor from 2000 to 2002.

According to her released statement, this year's campaign will emphasize holding down taxes and government spending while maintaining town services and improving customer convenience.

Umstattd serves on a myriad of boards and committees in the region, including the Northern Virginia Transportation Authority and the Loudoun Health Council. She also chairs both the Towns Association of Northern Virginia and the Council of Elected Officials.

During the past year, Umstattd has largely voted against large town overhauls, including voting against the King Street renovations.

Umstattd is one of four Leesburg town government officials up for re-election this year. The four-year terms for council members Kevin Wright, Marty Martinez and Kelly Burk will also be up this November.

A formal campaign kick-off for Umstattd will be held later this year.
