Meatless Monday

Restaurants across Leesburg will feature special meatless dishes on their menus every Monday starting May 7 as Loudoun joins the national Meatless Monday campaign.

Meatless Mondays began in 2003 as a grassroots health awareness campaign aimed at reducing saturated fat in the American diet.

Leesburg officially joined the movement April 24 when the Leesburg Town Council issued a proclamation of support for Meatless Mondays.

The popularity of the movement follows recommendations from both the American Cancer Society and the American Heart Association to limit the amount of meat in our diet.

This year, part of the Loudoun Green Business Challenge, businesses will be awarded points for their efforts to reduce consumption of meat and dairy through initiatives such as Meatless Mondays.
