Multiple deaths under investigation in McLean

Fairfax County Police detectives from Homicide and Crime Scene Investigation are investigating the discovery of two bodies inside a home in the 6700 block of Dean Drive in Mclean.

Detectives worked through the night of July 14 into the morning hours of June 15 and determined the identities of the decedents as well as the sequence of events leading to their deaths.

23-year-old Helen Lorena Hargan shot her mother, 63-year-old Pamela Denise Hansen Hargan, and then shot herself.

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will conduct autopsies and will make official determination of cause and manner of death.

Detectives want to reassure neighbors a 7-year-old child was not home at the time of the incident and is safe with her mother.

Also, all of the family dogs have been accounted for.

Officers said they went to the home shortly after 2 p.m. on July 14, after a caller reported that someone in the home might have been killed. Several unsuccessful attempts were made to communicate with anyone in the home and a reverse 911 call was placed to neighbors, asking them to remain inside their homes.

Officers said they then entered the home and discovered the two bodies.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact Fairfax County Police at 703-691-2131.
