Obituary: Jane Waddell, mother of Attorney General Mark Herring, dies at 84

Jane R. Waddell, the mother of Virginia Attorney General Mark Herring and late wife of former state Sen. Charlie Waddell, died May 12. She was 84.

Waddell, of Leesburg, enjoyed several occupations in her life, including a magistrate in Fairfax and Loudoun counties, a stewardess for American Airlines, teacher at St. Edward's School and manager at the Loudoun Racquet and Swim Club.

Born in Philadelphia in 1933, Waddell graduated Magna Cum Laude from Hanover College. She was the daughter of the late Dr. Raymond Coile Rankin and the late Katherine Capon Peyton. The departed leaves behind two children, Attorney General Herring and Susan Shaw, and five grandchildren, according to an obituary from Loudoun Funeral Chapel.

Waddell was a member of Leesburg Presbyterian Church, where a memorial service is planned for Wednesday at 11 a.m. She is buried in Union Cemetery in Leesburg, according to Loudoun Funeral Chapel.

At the family's request, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 3701 Pender Drive, Suite 400, Fairfax, VA 22030; or to the Leesburg Presbyterian Church 207 W.
